Each garment is a result of meticulous preparation, obsessive attention to detail and the urgent desire to create a perfect attire.

  • OUR JOURNEY, HISTORY AND IDENTITY

    AMARIS - The Story

Amaris Cuts started from our founder’s living room in Lekki, Lagos in late 2007, when after rediscovering her love for fashion, she started off by building an album of creative design sketches for different lines of clothes. The first line of Amaris clothing was born! At this stage, our founder engaged local tailors and closely supervised them to produce her designs. Her first customers were friends, family and church members in London and America who eagerly waited for her clothes each time she travelled on holidays or business trips.

In April 2010, our founder eventually took a leap of faith and resigned from a high profile but demanding position in the banking industry, to create more time to build her fashion brand. The business quickly moved into Adesola’s BQ. Armed with some seed money from family savings and a soft loan from her father, Adesola employed 2 skilled tailors and a beading staff and set to building her dream. Her mum, a well-known fashion designer donated two of her original sewing machines—authentic Japanese brands!! - and an interlocking machine. She also donated several pieces of décor, mirrors and other tools. The early days were heady and exciting times! Everyone mucked in, Adesola’s mother was her stand-in business consultant, her husband kept the books and helped manage finances, even the children helped arrange clothes and put on tags! Juggling home, mummy and wife duties whilst building a new business was challenging and stressful, but also exhilarating and rewarding.

Our first customers were former colleagues from UBA bank, friends, family and her original clients in the early days when she sold her brand from two luggage’s in the boot of her car! Amaris never did a planned advertisement. Clientele simply grew by word of mouth, well-wishers and satisfied customers. As the business grew bigger, more staff were employed and eventually the entire BQ was turned into a showroom and workshop. In 6 short years, Amaris had already far outgrown its humble beginnings. It was time for Amaris to move to the next stage.

In 2016, We opened up our flagship showroom and workshop in Lekki, a one-story standalone specially branded property in the heart of commercial Lekki. It was yet another bold step in the trajectory of the Amaris brand. Clientele grew even more rapidly, and we continued to expand our customer base.

    The Early Days

Our founder’s late mother had a very strong influence on her ending up as a fashionista. Her late mum, Chief Mrs Margaret Taiye Adeniyi was a renowned fashion designer and an accomplished entrepreneur who ran a group of successful businesses from her huge complex in Basorun, Ibadan between 1981 and 2006 when she retired. A young Adesola, the 4th child of 7 siblings grew up as part of the group of family businesses which included a fashion and design outfit - EXESCEE (formerly XANADU), which included a tailoring school, hair salon, barbing salon, and boutique. The group also included a boutique hotel, restaurant and a bakery all in one large complex. A good part of the founder’s childhood and that of her other 6 siblings involved working in different areas of the business right after school and closing with their mum except on days they had after school lessons. Initially, the founder and her siblings, naturally, did not quite enjoy the rigor and discipline involved in entrepreneurship at such an early age, but she quickly adjusted and soon found her niche in the fashion and hairdressing business. Adesola was very good with hair making and fixing weaves and she made a lot of extra pocket money during her university days and her prior days in London, fixing hair for friends and family. Adesola’s flair for entrepreneurship and fashion comes from her mother who imbibed the spirit of commerce, discipline and hard work in all her children. She insisted (especially the women) they all learn a skill or a trade, and her hard work and natural gift for commerce have always been a guiding light for Adesola.

    The Brand Today and Beyond

The Amaris history is rich with the influence of family, friends and well-wishers. It is a brand built on friendship, loyalty, family and trust. Our brand is like an unfolding journey with different people contributing a bit of something. Hence our fashion exhibits warmth and confidence and ‘feel-good’. The ethos underpinning our brand is one of the closeness, trust and loyalty that comes with friendship, hence what we seek in Amaris, is a customer experience not merely buying a garment. We strive to provide a personal touch that leaves our women satisfied, positive and confident about their look.

Our colours are bold and vibrant and pleasant and they bring out the best of our customer’s looks. We have built our brand on the personal touch that comes with a bespoke outfit and we have taken our time to ensure we are able to translate that personal touch to a wider audience, with our new line - labeled “SERIES by AMARIS”. whilst still retaining the personal touch we are known for.

“SERIES by AMARIS” is our diffusion line of stylish and structured easy-wear and semi-formal pieces available for local and international deliveries. We will still continue to provide our bespoke experience, which will continue to be available in-store.

    Adesola Osinowo

    Founder & Creative Director

Adesola Osinowo is the CEO and Creative Director of Amaris Cuts, a bespoke fashion retail outlet in Lagos. Adesola has fashion in her blood–her mother was a dressmaker and CEO of Xanadu/EXESCEE a top fashion outlet in Ibadan in the 80s - mid-2000’s. Leaving a position as a senior management staff of a top 3 bank in 2010 to pursue her dream was the best career decision Adesola ever made. Adesola graduated from the University of Ibadan in 1994 with a degree in Zoology before she relocated to the UK in 1995 and started a career in training and capacity building of individuals and organisations. She was a Contracts manager at a UK government agency for several years before moving on to a European social funded NGO as a Training and Employment Unit Head, working across several boroughs in London to facilitate EU funding for development, social entrepreneurship and training policies and opportunities for voluntary organisations. Adesola gained further qualifications as PRINCE 2 Certified Practitioner and a UK certified NVQ level, 5 qualified Adult Trainer, further enhancing her capacity for development skills. In 2007, Adesola was recruited by UBA bank and moved back to Nigeria. Adesola worked as a Head, Events Management & Sponsorships and later as Head Stakeholder Relations & Management and it was during the 3 years in these roles that her passion for fashion was rekindled and she started planning to open her own fashion house.

In 2010, Adesola resigned her position to focus on her family and build her fashion outlet. Adesola loves to read and cook, is an avid dancer and loves old school music. She is a dedicated member of the music team leadership in her local church. Adesola is happily married with two children.

  • “I find I have a lot of peace of mind with Amaris. They are always so welcoming and I do not have to think too hard about styles. They get what I want very quickly and come up with lovely styles that suit my body. The quality of their finished products is also very good - these days where one is apprehensive about tailors ruining their fabric. The ready-to-wear line is a reliable fall-back plan for me on those days where I need a quick outfit.”

    - Dr Awele Elumelu

“It really didn’t matter what it was, Lace, Ankara, Silk or Satin. Dinner, Church, Wedding; Casual, English, Native, Pants, or Dress. I always looked beautiful in Amaris. I always had a smile, I always had a dance, and I sure had swag in Amaris! A huge THANK YOU and God bless you, from a SATISFIED HAPPY CUSTOMER!”

    - Dr. Ifueko Omowunmi Thomas

“A fashion couture that has created a niche for itself and a safe haven for graceful women. I love the precision of her cut and timeliness of her delivery of items. She always insists that you must fit your clothes before it is displayed outside. That is the signature of AMARIS. No mistake. The cloth has to be sculptured to the physic of that person's unique shape. Everyone is beautiful with AMARIS.”

    - Dr Ibijoke Sanwoolu

“Amaris has added colours to many wardrobes over the years and the ability to deliver on those last minute ‘asoebi’ demands is majorly reassuring. Amaris gotcha most times. Their racks of ready-to-wear outfits are always filled with exquisite temptations.”

    - Biodun Akin-Bankole

“If you’ve heard the phrase 'need to feel good in the skin you wear' then you’ll know how I feel about Amaris Cuts. Amaris helped create my image as the Ankara wearing red hair Mrs. A. I’ve been with Amaris from day 1, first as a friend of the house, loyal customer, then as an Amaris model, and now as a brand ambassador. I feel good in the skin that I wear daily and Amaris makes that skin.”

    - Eunice Adeyemi

“AMARIS are my tried and trusted dressmakers. Sola understands the dressmaking needs of her fastidious fashionista elder sister. We collaborate, and the finished outfit causes FIREWORKS when worn!!! Need I say more. AMARIS will continue to grow exponentially.”

    - Ayaba Ayo-Joseph

“Over the years Sola has accommodated my several idiosyncrasies, from my wanting her to make an outfit for me in a week, to trying to force her to make styles that are as old as the hills for me. Sola has completely changed my dress sense, and for the better too. She took this as a personal project. She moved from being my dressmaker to becoming my Fashion stylist without being paid for the service. Sola is extremely respectful and she has a calming effect on her customers.”

    - Fadeke Adepetun

“Sola’s personal style, elegance and demeanour attracted me to Amaris. I then found that Amaris carried the stamp of her ingenuity and enterprise. Each item of clothing is created with her personal touch and attention to detail.”

    - Nkoyo Rapu

“All I can say is Adesola aka Amaris was born to do this... I mean Amaris was born to style you. With her superior sense of fashion, exquisite taste, precision in her application of methods, consistency of delivering on time and great sense of commitment to all she comes into contact with, I blindly and completely trust Amaris as a brand.”

    - Yemisi Adeyemi

“Sola is extremely versatile and is able to churn out a wide array of clothes from Ankara dresses, to George wrappers and blouses, to ball gowns, from haute couture to prêt-à-porter. When you describe what you want to her - she gets it! As I reflect on the past 7 years, I can think of many times the clothes she’s made for me have been absolutely amazing.”

    - Angela Aneke

“Your simple beautiful approach to life is exemplary, to God, your family, friends, clients, to all human beings, to your work, your staff, but most of all, your high sense of respect, and regard for excellent customer experience. You always ask questions, you listen, you want feedback, you always want to make your products turn out the way we want them to, no matter how much stress we women put you through.”

    - Angela Okonmah

“Adesola Rocks! Amaris Cuts - A professionally run Lifestyle Business. Sola knows her onions! From Consultation, to Measurements, to the Fabric, the Style, fit for Purpose/Occassion, the Fitting, Adjustments if necessary... always a pleasant experience. She’s ever so pleasant, courteous, candid, and would always deliver within timeline. She lives and breathes her passion excellently! I remember getting comments like this lady literally ‘carves these clothes on you!”

    - Arinola Adeniyi
